A good method to keep your hot tub clean is to use a filter wrote a method. This allows you to always keep a clean filter ready to go. One of these products is called the blaster automatic filter cleaner. What it does is, slowly rotates the filter underwater power while deeply spray cleaning the pleats. Some similar products produce a lot of splashing around, but the blaster automatic filter cleaner that seem to solve this problem.
